Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth

In addition to Hannah Montana, we can soon give Miley Cyrus a new alter ego: Mrs. Liam Hemsworth. The 19-year-old Cyrus revealed to People that Hemsworth, a 22-year-old star of The Hunger Games, proposed to her on May 31 with a 3.5-carat engagement ring from Neil Lane. “Thank you for all the love today,” she tweeted after the announcement. “I’m happy to share this news with you all. I feel like all my dreams are coming true.” No word on a date for her wedding party in the U.S.A.

LeAnn Rimes and Dean Sheremet

After going on one date with backup dancer Dean Sheremet in 2001, LeeAnn Rimes admitted to InStyle, “This is the guy I want to marry.” So she did. In February 2002, Rimes, who was 19, walked down the aisle with Sheremet, and the couple renewed their vows in 2008. But later that year, Rimes crushed Sheremet when it was revealed that she was having an affair with actor Eddie Cibrian. Both Rimes and Cibrian ended their marriages and were wed in 2011, but her ex-husband beat her to it. In true modern style, Rimes tweeted her congratulations: “Congrats to @deansheremet and @sarah_silver on your engagement! A little birdie told me the happy news last night. Best Wishes for a life full of happiness.”

Olivia Wilde and Tao Ruspoli

Long before she became famous on House, Olivia Wilde eloped at 18 and wed Tao Ruspoli, an Italian filmmaker, on, of all places, a bus. But even being married to an Italian prince doesn’t guarantee a happy ending. The couple split in 2011, citing irreconcilable differences. “You don’t want to end a marriage, especially if you really like the person—you just know that something’s off so you try to change everything else,” Wilde admitted to Amanda de Cadenet on The Conversation. “We basically built a new house and it was perfect—just a glorious house—and the day it was finished was the day I knew it wasn’t the house.” The 28-year-old Wilde is now playing house with Saturday Night Live star Jason Sudeikis.

Courtney Stodden and Doug Hutchison

“Even though she was just 16, I knew it was going to take a pretty big man to handle her because of her sexuality and because of the attention she gets,” Krista Keller told The Daily Beast about her daughter Courtney Stodden’s controversial relationship with 51-year-old Lost actor Doug Hutchison. But rather than make Hutchison wait until the precocious teen was 18 years old, Keller gave her consent to allow Stodden to marry right away. Since their wedding, Stodden has developed quite the following on Twitter for her outrageous tweets that double as jailbait performance art. “Just learned how to do the splits...” she teased last summer. “Figured I’d need to know how to do that trick sooner or later! Who knew my legs were so flexible?! ;-)”

Kim Kardashian and Damon Thomas

Compared to her 72-day express marriage to Kris Humphries, Kim Kardashian’s first wedding seems like eternity—four years—especially when you consider the future reality star was only 19 years old when she exchanged vows with music producer Damon Thomas. Not that it was a fairytale for the couple. In 2010, their divorce papers leaked, revealing that Kardashian accused Thomas of domestic violence, which he denied. Vehemently. “She can’t write or sing or dance, so she does harmful things in order to validate herself in the media,” Thomas told InTouch.  "That’s a fame-whore to me. It’s just not cool at all.”

Sandra Dee and Bobby Darin

When 24-year-old singer Bobby Darin married Gidget star Sandra Dee in 1960, she was just 18 years old. Officially. (According to their son’s biography of his parents, Dream Lovers, she was born in 1944, making her just 16 at the time.) But the union didn’t help Dee’s clean-cut screen image—despite making a few movies together—and in 1965 they divorced, just after starring in the romantic comedy That Funny Feeling. Dee and Darin were reunited onscreen decades later, when Kate Bosworth and Kevin Spacey portrayed them in Beyond the Sea.

Niki Taylor and Matt Martinez

Not long after she graduated from high school, 18-year-old model Niki Taylor met arena football player Matt Martinez. It was love at first coin toss. Three months later, the couple eloped, and the next year, Taylor was pregnant with their twins. But that proved to be too much too soon for the teen bride. Long divorced and remarried to NASCAR driver Burney Lamar, Taylor looks back on that first marriage with some perspective. “We were just two totally different people and after two totally different things. I was pregnant at 18, had Jake and Hunter at 19 and divorced by 21 … it was a lot on my plate for my young 20s!” she told Mom magazine in 2010. “I was young, and I thought I was in love.”

Rachel Miner and Macaulay Culkin

Perhaps to ensure that he would never be home alone again, Macaulay Culkin married actress Rachel Miner when they were both was just 17. “We’re so happy and proud that we found each other at such a young age,” the couple said in a statement after exchanging vows. “We look forward to spending our lives together.” Despite that hopeful beginning, Culkin and Miner separated two years later, and two years after that, in 2002, they divorced. But Culkin chalks it all up to experience, telling New York magazine in 2006: “You know, I am a former child actor. I’m supposed to be a lot more fucked up than I am.”

Drew Barrymore and Jeremy Thomas

Drew Barrymore had already called off two engagements when she married bar owner Jeremy Thomas at 19 in 1994. We’re trying to figure out [living arrangements] now,” she told People after a minister-psychic performed the ceremony. “Usually people live together first and then get married. I guess we’re doing it the old-fashioned way. Kind of.” Oddly enough, those two kids didn’t make it—less than two months later, Barrymore filed for divorce. Now 37, Barrymore wed for the third time—to Will Kopelman—last weekend.

Oona O’Neill and Charlie Chaplin

As the beautiful teenage daughter of playwright Eugene O’Neill, Oona O’Neill was a New York “it” girl in the 1940s, dating, among others, Orson Welles and J.D. Salinger. Alas, she broke Salinger’s heart when, at 16, she ended the relationship to be with Charlie Chaplin, who was then in his early 50s. After she married Chaplin in 1943, following her 18th birthday, Eugene O’Neill cut his daughter out of his life because he did not approve of the relationship. And yet the marriage lasted for 35 years—producing eight children—until the actor’s death in 1977 at 88.
