Ten more people appear to have been infected with the Zika virus through mosquitoes in Florida, Gov. Rick Scott announced Monday. Last week, the governor announced that four homegrown cases had popped up in the Sunshine State. The infections were all reportedly from an area near Miami-Dade County; and active transmissions have likely only occurred in that area. More than 1,650 people in the contiguous U.S. have been infected, but these cases were the first to be contracted in the in the mainland as opposed to being picked up abroad or in Puerto Rico. Gov. Scott called upon the Centers for Disease Control to activate its emergency response team.
