Rescuers pulled an 8-year-old girl and three others Monday from the remains of a Taiwanese high-rise that collapsed during Saturday’s 6.4-magnitude earthquake. Authorities say as many as 100 people may still be trapped in the structure; at least 38 people were killed across the island nation in the disaster. Emergency personnel were still working at the collapse site, after saving at least 170 people over the weekend. The apartment complex was built in 1989, and officials are investigating how it was constructed. Taiwan has strong building-code standards because of its frequent seismic activity.
