According to a study from the Federal Reserve, one in five people on the verge of retirement, between 55 and 64, have zero money saved for it. That troubling statistic is a reminder of how little planning most people do on their own when it comes to retirement. According to the study, most of the people who had no savings said they rarely thought about retirement. Another issue was lower incomes, which left less resources for retirement. Also in the study was that the number one resource the people surveyed said they planned to rely on was Social Security, regardless of whether or not they had savings built up.
