One man has died after being struck by lightning in a New York park on Friday, while four others who were with him remain hospitalized. The 50-year-old man died at Vassar Brothers Medical Center on Saturday, though his identity has not yet been released. Paramedics found three members of the group unresponsive late Friday, while two others were conscious but injured, their belongings on fire from the lightning strike. The group was reportedly visiting the Mansion Square Park in Poughkeepsie when the weather took a turn for the worse. All five people were rushed to the hospital for treatment. The group had reportedly been sitting underneath a tree when it was struck. Mayor Robert Rolison said in comments to CBS News that he had visited the scene and the victims included four men and one woman. He reminded the public not to sit underneath trees during storms, though conceded that the victims in this case may have had little to no time to react, as the storm hit quickly.
