Kenyan police have fatally shot at least eleven people during violent protests over the disputed election victory of President Uhuru Kenyatta. Rioting entered into its second day on Saturday, after the country’s election commission ruled that Kenyatta won the race fair and square with 54.3 percent of the vote. Opposition protesters have continued to battle police in the western city of Kisumu and several Nairobi slums, taking to the streets in support of opposition leader Raila Odinga, who says Tuesday’s election was rigged. Nine men in Mathare, a Nairobi slum, were killed in police anti-looting operations overnight Friday, a security official told Reuters. Another man was killed when police opened fire on the ouskirts of Kisumu. Five others were injured in that incident, authorities said. Separately, a resident of Mathare said his 9-year-old daughter was killed by a stray bullet while standing on the family’s third-floor balcony. “I was watching her play with her friends when she suddenly fell down,” Wycliff Mokaya told AP.
