New Yorker Robbie Chernow is currently celebrating his friend’s bachelor party in Chicago, completely solo.
They had been planning a fun weekend away with the gang but unfortunately, Delta unexpectedly canceled the flight transporting the groom and his entire party.
One really is the loneliest number, but Chernow is not letting that get him down—he’s enjoying a #ChicagoForOne as everyone else watches on Instagram.
“The plan was always for me to arrive a few hours early,” Chernow told Mashable. “But once I landed I was notified that Delta canceled the flight that everyone else was supposed to be on and couldn’t rebook them in a timely fashion.”
So Chernow set off to enjoy the trip solo.
He can be seen attending a Chicago Bears game with no one…
Taking a boat tour of the harbor solo…
Though not before he met Michelle, the woman whose family took the seats “that my friends would’ve been occupying had they made it here,” he captioned on Instagram. “She showed genuine remorse for my situation—so much that she gave me a mini bottle of Cabernet before telling her kids “let’s go sit somewhere else and let the sad man be alone,” he quipped.
He even took to Tinder to meet some new friends, including a #ChicagoForOne photo and updating his profile to explain his situation.
“I’m alone and looking for friends,” he wrote. “Nothing sexual! Just tourist activities!”
Suggestions from the dating app led him to Portillo’s, which he was told had “the best Italian beef sandwich in town.” At Portillo’s, a worker named Theresa told him “these sandwiches are normally meant to be shared, but you seem sad enough to finish one by yourself.”
Fittingly, when Chernow tried to take in the spectacular views of the city from the 360 Degree Experience at the John Hancock Tower, the fog completely shut down his view. He was left staring into the cloudy abyss alone.
Luckily one of Chernow’s friends set up a GoFundMe to gain him some extra spending money.
Hopefully he’s not still waiting on his tour bus. Aryana assured him that “the bus will be here soon. Just you wait,” he captioned on Instagram. But “I’ve heard that one before…”
