After President Yoweri Museveni signed into law a new anti-gay bill in Uganda that carries a life sentence for gay sex, three countries made good on threats to withdraw aid. The Netherlands, Norway, and Denmark have suspended millions destined to the Ugandan government, but will continue to support NGOs in the country. The White House is also reportedly looking at cutting aid, and called the law "abhorrent." However, the law is popular in Uganda, and many officials in the country seem to have no problem with the West taking back their money.
