Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) on Wednesday called on President Donald Trump to cease his attacks on Attorney General Jeff Sessions, a fellow Alabaman. “I support President Trump’s policies, but this public waterboarding of one of the greatest people Alabama has ever produced is inappropriate and insulting to the people of Alabama who know Jeff Sessions so well and elected him so often by overwhelming margins,” Brooks said. The Alabama lawmaker is seeking Sessions’ former Senate seat, which is currently occupied by Luther Strange, and Brooks offered on Wednesday to bow out of the race if Sessions were to be fired and desire a return to the Senate. Trump has been on the attack against Sessions in recent days, calling him “weak” and “beleaguered.” Trump has said he didn’t approve of Sessions’ decision to recuse himself from all matters relating to the federal investigation into Russian meddling.
