One of America’s largest medical lobbying groups voted this week in favor of banning direct-to-consumer advertising of prescription drugs and medical devices. The American Medical Association’s resolution holds no legal sway, as the decision ultimately lies with Congress or the Food and Drug Administration, but the organization emphasized that its decision higlights “concerns among physicians about the negative impact of commercially driven promotions, and the role that marketing costs play in fueling escalating drug prices.”
