Season 4 of Inside Amy Schumer kicked off Thursday night with a parody of “The Most Interesting Man in the World” commercials and a new, awful version of Hamilton about Betsy Ross. But the most pointed sketch of the night came when Amy Schumer went in for her annual gynecology appointment and was greeted by a quartet of congressmen.
When she asks where her doctor is, they respond, “We’re your doctor.” As they explain, “We’re the House Committee on Women’s Health. So I think we have a better idea than a bunch of science-y nerdles.” Instead of giving her the Pap smear she needs, they proceed to ask questions like, “When was the date of your last lady curse?” and “How many blood diapers did you use?”
And when they ask her to spread her legs and “present for the examination,” Schumer asks, “What? Wait. I feel a lot more comfortable with a woman in here. Aren’t there any women on the Women’s Health Committee?””
“That’d be like letting the lions run the zoo,” one of the men jokes, to laughter all around.
The premise may seem absurd, but really it’s no less unreasonable than a presidential candidate vowing to “punish” women for making choices about their bodies.
