Apple's Jony Ive, the famed designer behind some of the company's greatest devices including the iPhone and smartwatch, has been promoted to Chief Design Officer, the Telegraph reported on Monday. Ive, who previously served as senior vice president of design, will now expand his role to focus more on designing devices, Apple retail stores, the new California campus known as "spaceship" and even office furniture, according to an internal memo from CEO Tim Cook. The design guru is set to begin his new role in July while Richard Howarth will become the new head of Industrial Design and Alan Dye as the head of User Interface.
