Spider-Man Swings Through 'Idol'
The Season 10 finale was a night of star-studded performances before winner Scotty McCreery was crowned—Beyonce, Lady Gaga… and Spider-Man? The cast of the ill-fated Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark performed the song "Rise Above 1" from the show with Bono and The Edge, but it wasn't enough to get Spidey a kiss from J. Lo.
Casey Abrams Gets Saved, Breaks Down
Unlikely favorite Casey Abrams, who showed up to the Austin auditions with a melodica in tow, turned out to be one of the smoothest crooners of all… until he was voted off early. Luckily for him, the judges intervened to use their lone save of the season.
Shock Video: Pia Toscano Eliminated
But when Idol darling Pia suffered a shocking upset weeks later, the panel regretted saving Abrams. Forced to send Toscano home, the judges were appalled. As J. Lo put it: "I have no idea what just happened here."
Steven Tyler Flirts, Makes Noises, Shows Empathy
Those skeptical Idol fans who may not have expected much after the departure of Simon Cowell may have been as pleasantly surprised by Steven Tyler as we were. In this mashup of his funniest moments from the auditions, he sings, he makes faces, he flirts (maybe a little too eagerly), and he even offers hairstyling tips.
The Saga of Scotty's Mic Handling
It wasn't exactly a Sanjaya-level controversy, but it did grab everyone's attention. Scotty McCreery, the lone country crooner of Season 10, was scolded by Lady Gaga and teased by the other contestants for… improperly holding his mic. In the end, McCreery had the last laugh.
Judges Strip for J. Lo
So that's why Jennifer Lopez joined American Idol. In this audition episode, one contestant—a huge fan of Lopez and husband Marc Anthony—took his shirt off. Randy and Steven followed suit. Naturally.
Naima's Interpretive Dance
Give her points for creativity: Performing Martha and the Vandellas' "Dancing in the Street," Naima Adedapo used the final moments to bring out two African drummers and showcase her dancing skills. It may have been a WTF moment for the viewers, but the judges loved it.
A Visit from Hulk Hogan? Why Not!
In a nod to James and Paul's love for all things wrestling, the tanned tough guy paid a visit to Idol for a little WrestleMania. For a real WTF moment, watch Ryan Seacrest get tossed around.
Song of the Season: Casey and Haley 'Moanin''
What are the odds? On the April 14 episode, Casey Abrams and Haley Reinhart lit up the stage and had the Internet buzzing with "Moanin,'" a jazz duet.
