Rumors ran rampant in the summer months before the show returned, and the show had its highest ratings ever for its September premiere. The show did indeed kill off Sheen’s Charlie Harper, who “slipped off a train platform” in Paris, according to his new wife—and longtime spurned lover—Rose. Charlie’s off-screen death was described by Rose, who said he “didn’t suffer,” just “exploded like a balloon full of meat.” Enter Ashton Kutcher, who stepped in as new roommate Walden Schmidt.
