Jay-Z Channels the Chosen People
Jay-Z and Kanye get “bar mitzvah’d” on their new album, ‘Watch the Throne.’ See more Judaism in pop music.
In our increasingly multiracial society, the blewish community—those who are both black and Jewish—has become so strong, it was time for a theme song. Cue Funny or Die, which brought in Bridesmaids’ star Kali Hawk and blewish actress Kat Graham (The Vampire Diaries) to do a parody of Wiz Khalifa’s hit rap song “Black and Yellow” entitled—what else—“Black and Jewish.” In the video, they flash photos of black and Jewish stars (Maya Rudolph and Rashida Jones, for example) and name-check stereotypes about both races. A sampling of the lyrics: “My nose and ass / They’re both big”; “Sippin’ Hennessy at my Passover Seder”; “Got a Star of David on my chain”; “Had my bat mitzvah at KFC”; “Pourin’ out a little Manischewitz for the homies”; “I use hot sauce on my lox and bagels”’ and “We on the corner / Shootin’ dreidels.” That is definitely not Kosher.
