Chevy Chase in Paul Simon’s “You Can Call Me Al”

Next Previous

Paul Simon was not a fan of the original music video for his 1986 song “You Can Call Me Al,” which was a version of the song he sang on Saturday Night Live. Instead, inspired by SNL executive producer Lorne Michaels, comedian Chevy Chase joined Simon for a new version in 1987. Looking forlorn and twiddling his thumbs, the legendary musician left all the “singing” up to the far taller Chase, while he gave his vocals a rest and instead played the guitar, pennywhistle, and conga drum.
