Jennifer Garner in 'Butter'

Larry Horricks / 20th Century Fox

In the quirky comedy Butter, a 10-year-old orphan named Destiny discovers her talent for butter carving and finds herself pitted against the ambitious Laura Pickler (Jennifer Garner) in their Midwestern town’s annual contest after her husband Bob (Modern Family’s Ty Burrell) is forced to retire. Olivia Wilde and Hugh Jackman also appear in this Jim Field Smith (She’s Out of My League) offbeat political allegory from first-time screenwriter Jason Micallef. “The humor is twisted but the world is bright as can be,” The Hollywood Reporter reviewed. “Conservatives and liberals alike take a licking, and yet the art of butter carving emerges unscathed.”

Butter premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at Roy Thomson Hall at 9:30 pm.
