Record: 9.58 seconds
Athlete: Usain Bolt
The aptly named Bolt shattered his own world record by more than one tenth of a second at the IAAF World Championships in Berlin, with a 100-meter time of 9.58 seconds. "I was definitely ready for the world record, and I did it," Bolt said after setting the new benchmark. "I didn't think I could run a tenth [of a second] faster than my world record, but for me, anything is possible.” The only runner who has a shot at breaking Bolt’s record is Bolt himself.
