Most Controversial Music Video Shoots

What Bono wants, Bono gets, as the 1987 shoot for U2’s hit “Where the Streets Have No Name” proved. The performance video was shot before an impromptu audience in one of the least glamorous places possible: the roof of a Skid Row liquor store in Los Angeles. Over a thousand U2 fans flooded the streets, causing traffic hazards that prompted the LAPD to shut down filming. Footage and audio of the police’s efforts to end the concert, however, were used in the video for dramatic effect, playing right into Bono’s plan for theatrics.
