Not since the Little Rascals started the He-Man’s Woman Hater’s Club has there been such a comically sexist message as the ad campaign for Dr Pepper Ten. Using a faux action film to promote the new diet soda, the commercial taunts: “Hey, ladies. Enjoying the film? Of course not. Because this is our movie and this is our soda. You can keep the romantic comedies and lady drinks. We’re good.” Dr Pepper Ten isn’t the first soft drink targeted only for men—Pepsi Max and Coke Zero have previously mined the territory—but the new Dr Pepper campaign taps into the mock macho posturing that has reignited venerable brands such as Old Spice.
