The CEO of Brookfield Properties, which owns Zuccotti Park, created a minor media frenzy after he wrote a letter to Police Commissioner Ray Kelly to request assistance in clearing the park. In the letter, Clark penned, “After weeks of occupation, conditions at the park have deteriorated to unsanitary and unsafe.” Not ones to let the moneyed men win, protesters threatened to form a human chain around the park. Reports indicated that all sides were prepping for a “showdown,” but the faceoff never came. Days later, Brookfield Properties released a statement allowing the protesters to stay, saying "Brookfield believes they can work out an arrangement with the protesters that will ensure the park remains clean, safe, available for public use..."
