TAXI DRIVER (1976)

The line “You talkin’ to me?” delivered by renegade cabbie Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro) in Martin Scorsese’s 1976 classic Taxi Driver, was voted the No. 10 movie quote of all time by the American Film Institute. Screenwriter Paul Schrader, however, refused to take credit for the catchphrase, claiming that all his script said was “Travis speaks to himself in the mirror.” De Niro, in all his greatness, improvised the speech—later claiming that he once saw Bruce Springsteen say it to fans cheering his name while onstage at a concert and decided to put his own little twist on the Boss’s line.
