It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

Next Previous

Even though it’s 45 years old, the Peanuts Emmy-nominated animated TV special It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown still resonates every Halloween. Blanket-toting Linus writes his annual letter to the Great Pumpkin in the 1966 TV movie, though the other characters think it’s ridiculous. When All Hallows' Eve finally arrives, everyone goes trick-or-treating except Linus and Charlie Brown’s little sister, Sally, who sits in the patch, waiting for the Great Pumpkin. Though Lucy, Schroeder, Patty, and the rest of the gang get treats when they ring doorbells in costume, Charlie Brown, sadly, gets a rock from each and every house. The following day everyone is disappointed, but Linus maintains that the Great Pumpkin will appear next year. It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is such a classic that it was even parodied in The Simpsons' 2008 Halloween episode, “Treehouse of Horror XIX.”
