The Office: ‘Halloween’

Next Previous

In The Office’s sophomore season, the series’ hilariously villainous boss, Michael Scott (played by Steve Carell), was faced with quite the quandary: he had to fire somebody by the end of October. In the aptly titled 2005 “Halloween” episode, procrastinator Michael—dressed as conjoined twins with a papier-mâché head in his image on his shoulder—is against the clock to give someone the boot, since it’s Oct. 31. Clearly, it’s not Dwight, dressed as a “Sith lord,” Pam as a cat (coincidentally, along with Angela and Phyllis), or Jim as a three-hole punch who will get laid off. After a couple of failed attempts, Michael decides to let go Devon, dressed as a hobo. After ripping up Michael’s Chili’s gift-certificate consolation prize, Devon leaves Dunder Mifflin and smashes a pumpkin on Michael’s car in revenge.
