Best Supporting Actor and Actress
The conventional wisdom: Octavia Spencer (The Help) and Christopher Plummer (Beginners) have picked up virtually every precursor award, and they are guaranteed the Oscar, too. Right? Not so, says Travers. He actually thinks they will both lose. See his out-of-control predictions below.
Best Actor and Actress
Both of these categories are up in the air. Best actress is a close race between The Iron Lady’s Meryl Streep (who picked up her 17th nomination and hasn’t won since 1983) and The Help’s Viola Davis. Best actor has George Clooney (The Descendants) neck and neck with Jean Dujardin (The Artist) and Brad Pitt (Moneyball) close behind. See who we think will win.
Best Picture
There are nine nominees this year for best picture—thanks to a new convoluted Academy rule—but this category is a lock. See why The Artist, with 10 nominations, will beat The Help, The Descendants, and Hugo.
