Today we asked, "Will Romney wrap up the GOP nomination today?"
An overwhelming 90% said No.
5% of voters said "You wish."
And 5% said Yes, Romney could end the primary race with wins in Arizona and Michigan tonight.
The resounding "No" reflects the Republican electorate's overall uncertainty at this stage of the race. Yet although very few thought Romney could wrap up the nomination tonight, commenters didn't necessarily believe that excludes the possibility that he could do so in the next few weeks.
Martha Foster: Not quite yet, there are some upcoming southern states where Santorum could do well. But I'm sure Romney will wrap it up fairly soon.
However, he's been badly injured by this process, and many of his wounds self-inflicted. Some extended primaries can help candidates, sharpening their views on various issues. But not this one, where issues were rarely, if at all, seriously debated, and Romney could not manage to rise above some jaw-droppingly bad alternatives. It will be a sad spectacle, watching Romney limp into the convention.
Others lamented the resurgent conservative wing's ability to draw out the race against the more electable Romney, implying that this helps Democrats.
David Yellope: Generally, we wish it would end. You know who wants this to go on forever? The Democrats. The Republicans are doing a Reverse Daytona.. (you know, turn right, turn right, turn right, turn right...)
Mark Rice: Nope. Adelson just handed Newt another bucket of cash.
Art Layman: Could it be that Adelson is really a closet Dem?
