Amid the growing clamor about rising fuel prices, today we asked, “Will rising gas prices hurt you significantly?”

Most voters didn’t seem too bothered by the rise in prices.

No 75%

Depends On How Much They Rise 15%

Good thing as it gets us off petroleum fuel 10%

Some who answered no did so because of the long-term environmental significance of less gasoline consumption.

Greg Schisla: I am fortunate enough that gas prices have no ill affect on my lifestyle. But I voted for Good Thing as it gets us off petroleum based fuels as I believe the economic issues associated with high gas prices will be completely overshadowed by the climate change they cause. We need cleaner, longer term sustainable energy and cheap oil keeps that from occurring.

Reasons for voting no also included proximity to work and shopping.

Dante1: Not in the slightest. My wife and I drive two small cars, we bought a house that’s within a bicycle commute to our jobs, we ride bikes into downtown to go to bars and restaurants, and we’ll even fill up an old kiddie trailer to go grocery shopping sometimes.

You know, PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY, like the Republicans usually talk about (but rarely practice).

However, the rise in gas prices will still cause very noticeable strain on checkbooks for some.

LFC: I have a fairly long commute, fortunately with few lights. A one dollar increase in gas prices will cost me over $500 annually for work. Add in a bit more for errands and pleasure.
