The Queen's granddaughter, Zara Philips, has been confirmed as a competitor for team GB in the London 2012 games, taking part in the showjumping events.Princess Anne’s daughter is to be given no special treatment, it has emerged, staying in the Olympic village and sharing the same security and transport as other athletes.

Princess Anne's daughter - who has eschewed royal protection in her private and personal life - was asked at a press conference today: "Is the Queen your biggest fan?"

She grinned before replying, "Oh man. Obviously my family are right behind me. I am massively excited and honored to be riding on a team with these guys and still keeping fingers crossed because we still have a few weeks to go and we know what horses are like."

In both 2008 and 2004, Zara was unable to compete in the Olympics at the last minute when her horse was injured.
