Academy Award Best Costume Nominees Announced: Oscar nominations were announced this morning, including five films that are acknowledged for their standout costume design. Among the nominees are Anna Karenina, Les Misérables, Lincoln, and two Snow White-inspired film—Mirror Mirror and Snow White and the Huntsman. [Academy Awards]
Guy Richie for H&M: Madonna’s ex-husband Guy Richie has directed David Beckham’s newest Bodywear campaign for H&M in which the soccer star plays an action hero. “For me, this felt like more than a campaign—it was like directing a short film,” Richie said of the project in a release. Missoni Show Goes On: Missoni will show their fall 2013 menswear collection in Milan on Sunday despite the ongoing search for the brand’s missing CEO Vittorio Missoni. However, none of Missoni’s family members are expected to attend. [WWD]
YSL Troubles Loom: Troubles are reportedly brewing over at Saint Laurent Paris. The house, which was supposed to debut its pre-fall collection this week, has reportedly cancelled its press presentation last-minute. WSJ’s ‘Off Duty’ fashion director Meenal Mistry tweeted, “Status of Saint Laurent pre-fall: Appt made, then postponed, now canceled entirely sans explanation. Are we really doing this again?” Pre-fall 2013 will mark Hedi Slimane’s second collection for the brand. [Twitter]
Selfriges’s Quiet Corner: UK department store Selfridges has collaborated with upstart Headspace, a company that bills itself as the “world’s first gym membership for the mind” to create a series of quiet-time practices. The store has begun holding mass meditations on its cosmetics floor, drawing over 500 people. They’ve also erected a ‘Silence Room’ where shoppers can respite in peace, and have developed a special retail component: The Quiet Shop features ‘No Noise’ products—taking iconic items like La Mer and selling them without a branded label.
