Millennials and the Dating World

Alex Williams' provocative piece "The End of Courtship" tells of the depressing reality that is the dating world of millennials. The traditional guy-takes-a-girl-out model is seemingly no more. It has been replaced with "hanging out;" a more casual atmosphere where food is seldom present, but alcohol is plentiful.

Blame the much-documented rise of the “hookup culture” among young people, characterized by spontaneous, commitment-free (and often, alcohol-fueled) romantic flings. Many students today have never been on a traditional date… Hookups may be fine for college students, but what about after, when they start to build an adult life? The problem is that “young people today don’t know how to get out of hookup culture,” [author Donna Freitas] said.

I'm curious as to what will happen when people my age start thinking about having a family. How are we supposed to find a suitable partner if we don't know the basic rules of courtship?
