Michael Kors and Jenna Lyons Make Time's 100; Hedi Slimane's Saint Laurent Actually Sells

Time 100’s Fashion Stars: Time released its annual 100 Most Influential People list on Thursday, featuring a diverse array of world leaders, entertainment figures, and icons. Among them are designer Michael Kors, who was listed in the ‘Titans’ category, and J.Crew’s creative director Jenna Lyons, who is categorized as one of the list’s ‘Artists.’ [Time]

Hedi Slimane Sells: Hedi Slimane’s tumultuous first year at the helm of Saint Laurent has come under The New York Times’s review. Fashion reporter Eric Wilson explains that although Slimane’s designs have been widely panned by industry critics, that hasn’t stopped consumers from buying it at full price. He writes: “From PPR’s perspective, Mr. Slimane is doing exactly what the company wants, engaging in the commercial side of the business, including store design, and communicating directly with younger customers online.” [NYT]

Nick Wooster Reportedly Ousted: J.C. Penney’s bloodbath continues. In the wake of CEO Ron Johnson’s firing, the retailer has also let creative director and veteran buyer Nickelson Wooster go, reports the New York Post.  Johnson hired Wooster last April to oversee the aesthetics of his plans for Penney’s ambitious rehaul (which has seemingly failed). Prior to J.C. Penney, Wooster served as men’s fashion director at Bergdorf Goodman—a job he left mysteriously in 2011. He’s not the only one who’s been ousted--the retailer has also reportedly sent its chief talent officer and creative head packing. [NY Post]

Brazilian Anti-Anorexia Campaign: The Star Models agency in Brazil has released an anti-anorexia campaign that blames fashion designers’ sketches for the fashion industry’s too-thin woes. Star, which is the official Brazillian representative of Ford Models according to BuzzFeed, created ads that read, “You are not a sketch, say no to anorexia.” The campaign depicts a frighteningly thin fashion sketch juxtaposed next to a similarly-built model—loosely implying that models are only thin to suit fashion designers’ ideals.
