Five Highlights From Channing Tatum’s Ridiculously Charming Press Tour
While promoting White House Down last week, Channing Tatum raised a pressing question: could he be any more likable? Judging by these five videos, maybe not.
It already was hard to resist Channing Tatum. He’s the Sexiest Man Alive. He starred in two of the most entertaining movies of last year, Magic Mike and 21 Jump Street. And, be still our ’90s-loving heart, he once did a striptease set to “Pony” by Ginuwine. Now Tatum’s full throttle on a press offensive to promote his new movie, White House Down. And he couldn’t be more damn charming.
In the film, which opened this weekend, Tatum plays a Capitol policeman who must save his daughter, the president, the White House, and the nation’s capital (and maybe even the world?) when domestic terrorists attack 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. He does so in a tight white tank top. (You should see this movie.) But it’s not just his ass-kicking performance in White House Down that’s going to win Tatum a more passionate following than even before. It’s the irresistible coolness he showed off during the film’s promotional tour.
For your pleasure, here’s a look back at the greatest hits from Tatum’s media charm assault. Watch your back, Gosling.
“(I Wanna) Channing All Over Your Tatum”
Taking a page from the Justin Timberlake playbook, Tatum filmed a music video for a dirty ’90s-sounding R&B slow jam, which instantly went viral. “(I Wanna) Channing All Over Your Tatum” teams Tatum with his White House Down co-star for a song with lyrics like, “I see a pretty lady sippin’ on a drink/I gaze into her eyes, and our glasses go clink/And I know ... I wanna Channing all over her Tatum!” Blush.
Tatum and his wife, actress Jenna Dewan, just welcomed their first daughter, Everly, but it’s safe to say he’s already on track to becoming the world’s coolest dad. Case in point, the epic 48-second secret handshake—the Chanshake—he developed for him and young actress Joey King, who plays his daughter in White House Down. I mean, he even does the Carlton dance. Plus, there’s this amusing tidbit from his interview: “I’ve never been so excited when something poos. I just get so amped up, because I’m in the game now.”
“Waffle House Down”
“This might be a first,” Jimmy Kimmel said, discussing the upcoming release of White House Down last week. “They’ve done some testing of the film, and audiences are so excited about it, they’re already releasing a sequel.” Behold the trailer for Waffle House Down, where Tatum plays a Waffle House employee who must defend his establishment against rifle-wielding terrorists from IHOP. Quite honestly, the movie doesn’t look half bad.
Dancing on Univision
We knew Tatum could bump and grind, thanks to Magic Mike. He showed off his hip-hop moves in the Step Up films, and he and Charlize Theron did their best Fred and Ginger at this year’s Oscars ceremony. While it’s no surprise that he can dance, he can now baila, too. He and Jamie Foxx appeared on Univision’s Despierta América, where they both gamely learned how to salsa dance.
Guys, he cried when his was baby was born. Cue the collective “aw.”
Then, of course, there was this tweet.
