A rare royal display of emotion today as a heartbroken Camilla Parker Bowles wiped away tears and held the hand of her husband Prince Charles at the funeral of her brother Mark Shand.

Mr Shand - a conservationist and travel writer celebrated for his book "Travels On My Elephant" which detailed his 600-mile journey aboard an elephant across India - died unexpectedly last week aged 62 after falling and hitting his head outside the Gramercy Hotel in New York.

The singer Yusuf Islam, formerly known as Cat Stevens, who had flown in from the US especially for the funeral, was among the mourners. He played an acoustic version of his 1970 hit Wild World.

Courtiers told the Royalist that while Charles and Camilla's trip to Canada on May 18 had not been canceled, and while the tour remained important to the couple, it was too early to say definitively if it would go ahead exactly as planned.

"Everything's still being worked out," said an aide.
