Pippa: "My Normal and Sisterly" Relationship With Kate
Pippa Middleton speaks about her “normal” and “sisterly” relationship with her sister Kate in her NBC interview with Matt Lauer to be aired on theToday show on Monday and Tuesday next week.
The 30-year-old party planner opened up about her relationship with her big sister, telling Lauer that “not much” had changed between the two, although “Obviously she has pressures that she’s taken on and things,” Pippa said.
The interview is a huge coup for NBC after years of bids and counter-offers for the first Pippa interview.
Pippa gave an insight into her and Kate’s life, saying, “We spend a lot of time together. We still do a lot together as a family. And I think that’s really the heart for all of us is having a really close family that we can sort of be normal with each other, treat each other normally. And that’s sort of kept us all, you know, affixed to the ground.”
Lauer pressed the party planner on whether she could still pick up the phone and call her duchess sister at any time.
“Yeah. Yeah, we do we have a very normal, sisterly relationship. We’re very close,” she said.
“And, you know, we support each other and get each other’s opinions and things.”
Lauer also asked about Pippa’s 12-state bike ride for charity that took her across the United States last week.
Lauer asked, “What’s your take on [America]?”
“I love it — it’s very friendly, very welcoming,” Pippa replied.
“We felt that the entire way. And the scenery was incredible. And I think that what lifted our spirits when it really hurt, sort of grinding on the bike, was to see everything around us. From the mountains, the desert, through the flat plains of Kansas.”
After years of unsuccesful entreaties by the U.S. TV networks, Pippa finally sat down to speak with NBC, but reports that she is to take a part-time presenting role for the channel have been dismissed.
A source told Page Six that NBC’s offer to Miss Middleton, who still writes for Vanity Fair magazine, could be for her to take a similar role as Chelsea Clinton’s on Today, appearing in special reports rather than speaking about her famous family.
However, an NBC spokesman last night denied there was to be any offer, saying: “This is 100 percent not true and it seems anyone suggesting otherwise is ‘royally’ jealous.”
