Like his hair, Donald Trump’s personal war with Mexico is a grotesque absurdity that we’ve all gradually gotten used to. From the beginning of his campaign, the GOP nominee has relentlessly maligned our neighbor to the south, calling its emigrants drug dealers and rapists, demanding a massive border wall, and repeatedly—often through a call-and-response routine with his audience—declared that Mexico will pay for it.
So it came as a shock on Wednesday when Mexico’s president, Enrique Pena Nieto, stood beside Trump at a press conference in Mexico City, talking generously about his willingness to work “constructively” with a potential President Trump. Had he forgotten Trump’s bizarre charge that Mexico deliberately sends criminals across the border, or his insinuation that Mexico is preparing for war with the U.S., or the 14 months of other insane insults Trump has hurled at his country? Here, as a service to Nieto and anyone else who needs a refresher, is a video of Nieto’s speech, annotated with all the batshit crazy things Trump has said about Mexico.
