Samantha Bee is boycotting this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner with her own alternative event.
The "Not the White House Correspondents' Dinner,” is set to air the same night as the actual White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday, April 29th. The red carpet begins at 9 PM ET while the actual event airs at 11 PM ET.
The Full Frontal host announced her plans to boycott the event with her own broadcast just two weeks after President Trump was elected.
Since, Samantha Bee has been going hard with promotion for the event.
“It’s basically going to be a prom for nerds not invited to #NerdProm.” she tweeted. She also added "The evening is sure to bring plenty of surprises, music, food, and laughter—and if you're not careful you just might learn something. Specifically, you'll learn how screwed we'd be without a free press.”
Bee has invited many journalist and those she dubs as “non-irritating celebrities from around the world.” Although, she herself has never attended at White House Correspondents’ Dinner, she expects many to show up in support of her boycott.
The event plans to show support for to the Committee to Protect Journalist with monetary donations whether they like it or not.
P.S. Bring Your Own Bottle. She’s not kidding about that either.
