After leading the tally for weeks, Julian Assange has come out on top in Time magazine’s online poll asking readers who should be 2010’s “Person of the Year.” Out of a total 1,249,425 votes, Assange won 382,020, more than twice as many votes as the second place winner, Recep Tayyip Ergodan, prime minister of Turkey. Assange also beat Lady Gaga, who came in third, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, who collectively came in fourth, Glenn Beck, fifth, and Barack Obama, sixth. Time’s official person of the year is chosen by editors, who will announce their decision Wednesday morning on the Today show.
