Khabat Abbas is an independent journalist and video producer based in Northen Eastern Syria. Since 2011 she has been covering the conflict starting with the protests against the regime of Bashar al-Assad. As the war picked up she traveled to the front lines as a journalist for local agencies such as Firat and Hawar News. She also worked as a stringer for international media such as Sunday Times, Washington Post, Der Spiegel, Arte, amongst others. She also worked as a senior registration assistant for IDPs and refugees at UNHCR, while for MSF she was a translator and a security coordinator. Abbas has a BA in English Literature from Aleppo University. She is fluent in Kurdish, Arabic and English.
