A year after the horrific shooting that killed six people and nearly ended her own life, Gabrielle Giffords returned to the scene of the crime. In an excerpt from the upcoming paperback edition of Gabby: A Story of Courage, Love and Resilience, Giffords’s husband Mark Kelly writes about the emotional journey.
Mark Kelly was a captain in the United States Navy when he commanded the final mission of space shuttle Endeavour in May 2011. A veteran of four space flights to the International Space Station, he is a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy and holds a master’s degree from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School.
He is the author of Mousetronaut: Based on a (Partially) True Story, which will be published on Oct. 9 by Paula Wiseman Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers.
