Hollywood wrapped up its night of glitz and glamour at the Golden Globes by crowning Avatar as the best motion picture in the drama category. James Cameron, who also won the award for best director, attributed his wins to the ability to appeal to a "global" crowd, and spouted a few Avatar-esque words of wisdom. Many leading actors rose to their feet to congratulate Jeff Bridges for winning best actor for his role in Crazy Heart. Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock, who locked lips at the Critic's Choice Awards, both won for their categories, best actress in a motion picture, comedy and drama, respectively. Glee won best series (musical or comedy). In an unexpected slip past Dexter, Mad Men was named best television drama. Martin Scorsese was honored for his contribution to film. Toni Collette, from The United States of Tara, was named best actress in a television comedy, as was cancer survivor Michael C. Hall for Dexter. Chloe Sevigny won for her role as a polygamist's wife in Big Love and Drew Barrymore was awarded for her role in Grey Gardens.
