Arizona approved a new bill on Thursday requiring high school students to pass a U.S. citizenship test on civics before graduation. Students must correctly answer 60 out of 100 questions on the test in order to earn a high school or GED diploma beginning in the 2016-17 school year. North Dakota's House of Representatives passed a similar measure on Thursday, but Arizona became the first state to pass a full Legislature on the bill. Arizona-based Joe Foss Institute is aiming to implement the compulsory test across all 50 states by 2017, when the U.S. celebrates the 230th anniversary of the Constitution. The Institute anticipates 15 state legislatures will look at the measure this year.
