The revolution in LGBT rights continues. The Department of Health and Human Services ruled Friday to end a ban on Medicare covering sex-reassignment surgery. The ban was instituted in 1981 for fear of “serious complications” resulting from “experimental” surgery, but the procedures are now considered to be safe. This does not mean Medicare will start paying for sex changes, but it does mean Medicare will no longer be prevented from doing so when claims are made. No word on Medicaid though.
