If ever you needed proof that big drug operations aren’t all cold-blooded, Machiavellian enterprises, John McCaslin has the evidence in Weed Man. In his real-life saga of the abstinent Bahamian pot smuggler, Jimmy Divine, former Washington Times political reporter McCaslin delivers an island adventure story that manages to be hilarious and thoroughly criminal at the same time. Jimmy’s drug smuggling career began with an accident—he literally tripped over bundles of Colombian grass that washed up on the beach—but expanded under his good-natured (and not exactly strategic) leadership. Readers will especially like when Jimmy’s merry band was unable to get at a big stash because they had hidden it under a church’s floorboards before they knew the pastor has decided to hold a last-minute Easter Monday service. You’ll know it’s wrong, but there’s something in the most law-abiding among us that’ll want Jimmy to beat the rap. |
