I haven't been a gigantic Pedro Almodóvar fan in the past, which is probably because I'm too literal-minded and conventional in my narrative tastes. So I was very pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed his new film, Broken Embraces. It's a good old-fashioned mystery about a blind filmmaker and his movie-actress former girlfriend (played by Penelope Cruz), well-plotted and emotionally affecting as well as sexy and witty. (Interestingly, the one gay character is a creep.) Walking out of the theater, my first thought was: "Hitchcock with nudity!"

Dolmance

The first sentence of this article strips the author of any credibility when writing about film. And that's all she wrote.

Thankfully I'm fluent in Spanish, so I can enjoy Almodovar's movies the way they were intended to be seen en Espanol. Gracias por la alerta de la nueva pelicula!
