![]() Recently, I saw two films of such stark contrasts that one can only step back and marvel at the complexity and richness of the human condition. First up was The White Ribbon—director Michael Haneke's latest film and the winner of the 2009 Palme D'Or at the Cannes Film Festival—a stunning black-and-white portrayal of the bizarre and frightful groupthink taking hold of a small village in Germany on the eve of World War I. That was heavy going. So why not douse that burning ember with its obvious antidote—Good Hair—Chris Rock's highly entertaining treatise on the state of hair in the black community. Needless to say, both films taught me more than I bargained for. |
