![]() I like the Web-based news site Elaph.com, the Pan-Arab online newspaper edited in London. Like the Beast, it is a the closest thing to a one-stop shop for news junkies from the Arab World, minus a lot of the censorship that plagues most Arab news organizations. It is relatively daring and covers almost everything—from regional and international politics to the Arab equivalent of Hollywood, including a lot of important news that Western and U.S. media never bother to cover. It manages to pick up the best of the Arab and western media. Edited by the widely respected Othman al-Omeir, a former editor of the leading Pan-Arab daily Asharq al-Awsat, Elaph.com is today more influential than all Arab news organizations except for leading satellite channels. Although some complain that it offers the trivial together with the essential, this news site has become indispensable for Arabic readers. |

Unfortunately, the site is in Arabic. I guess that makes sense, since it's an Arabic site. But if there's a way to have an English translation of it, it may make the site available to many more readers. The Asharq al-Awsat site is excellent and educating for this westerner.

"Although some complain" that they can't read it because it's in Arabic... great pick.
Thank you.
