For inspirational and informative ideas on education, check out the Fall 2008 issue of Lapham’s Quarterly. In this issue, titled Ways of Learning, Lewis Lapham reprints thoughts on education penned by a rich variety of writers, from the ancients to contemporary authors. I found many of the passages bracing and thought-provoking. Education is power; it opens up new opportunities. It can break down barriers of prejudice and provincialism that divide people. Witnessing what some of history’s greatest thinkers have said about education provide fresh insights into one of the most pressing issues of our time. |
