Twilight book cover

I know it's sold in the “tween” section and written for kids, but Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight is one of the sweetest love stories I've read in a while. So far, it's been the best escape from this arctic blast that I've come across.

are you kidding me? the twilight series are "sweet"??? Only if you think its sweet to be a slavishly devoted housewife type who is willing to die for "love" and to cook dinner endlessly for dear old dad. these books, while admittedly popular, are nothing more than retrograde romance that seem to suggest abstinence is soooo sexy and "true" love is all that is important to a young woman. Bella (the protagonist) is a nitwit, and Edward (vampire) is an abusive, domineering, masculinist. Sweet? no. Sick? yes.

I am so glad you have read tween lit. It is some of the best writing being done. Please try John Green, his first book is "Looking for Alaska". His latest is "Paper Towns". They are funny, sweet and philosophical. Also, his blog "Sparks Fly Up" is terrific.
