![]() The Help by Kathryn Stockett is beautifully written and tells the story of brave, heroic women who endured humiliation and abuse under some of the awful women they worked for in the South in the 1950s and 1960s. I was inspired by these characters and I promise that the heroines will stay with you. |

I am getting so tired of the book recommendations. Lazy. Share something you've discovered or done or want to do. HEck, even music would be more interesting.
It has been done before. Genet's 'The Maids' was shorter & better. Another tear jerker about the 'have nots' suffering under the rule of the 'haves' but in Genet's play the maids could have been White (heavens!).
Any White person who grew up in another culture such as Asia, Africa, India, etc. experienced much the same feelings of exclusion. The Eskimos have a derisive term for someone who can't make it in their culture: 'White Man'. But coming from their noble mouths that can't be Racist; just humorous.
Why is it that it is not noble for White people to recount their experiences of trying to blend in with another culture? We didn't become part of the most dominant culture in world history by being isolated.
Thank you.
