For passengers traveling over the holiday weekend, the blizzard blanketing the U.S. Northeast and Mid-Atlantic continues to deliver the post-Christmas blues. Blizzard warnings are in effect for Virginia and Maryland’s Eastern Shore through Monday morning, with the National Weather Service predicting snow of up to 15 inches, while the Connecticut coast, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, coastal New Hampshire, and Maine have a blizzard warning in effect through Monday evening, and are expected to receive 12 to 16 inches of snow, and 60 mph winds. “Unfortunately, our city is directly in the path,” said New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg Sunday afternoon, amid a blizzard warning that extends until 6 p.m. Monday. “It's hard to stand up in a 55-mph wind, so this really is dangerous.” Indeed, Metropolitan New York is expected to receive anywhere between 15 and 20 inches of snow. And, as of Monday morning, the three major New York-area airports–Newark, LaGuardia, and John F. Kennedy–remained closed and will not reopen until 4 p.m. ET Monday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. New Jersey, Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia have declared a state of emergency.
